Hot Wheels celebrates 40th anniversary with the Ultimate Bling car

Earlier this year, the 4 billionth Hot Wheels car rolled off the line, just in time for their 40th anniversary. One thing I love about Hot Wheels is that they are still one of the best deals in town - how long has their price remained unchanged? I'm not exactly sure, but its been a long time. For just under a dollar, you can purchase one of hundreds of different cars.
Well, expect to pay a little more for this one. To celebrate their anniversary, Mattel has produced a one-of-a-kind masterpiece in the proper 1/64 scale, but unlike the usual Hot Wheels, this one is crafted out of 18K white and yellow gold, and carries 23 carats worth of diamonds, colored diamonds, and rubies. It even comes with a special case that is encrusted with yet even more gems.
It is being auctioned off for charity this weekend at the Bohhams' California Classic Auto Memorabilia show on October 25 in Los Angeles.
That's cool and all, but what they should have done is randomly insert this car in one of their blind-box Mystery Cars. Now that would have been the ultimate Treasure Hunt.

Hot Wheels back at McDonalds; in Happy Meals starting October 10

Hot Wheels are back at McDonalds today. The LEGO Batman toys are now gone and Happy Meals are now packed with one of six new Hot Wheels. Each car includes decals you apply, and they also have assorted features such as working lights or pull-back action.
Of course Hot Wheels are the "boy" toy. The "girl" toy is Barbie, available in six different location-based versions, such as Hollywood Barbie and Paris Barbie.

Hot Wheels 40th Anniversary Celebration on the road now

The first Hot Wheels debuted in 1968, so Mattel is celebrating 40 years of making miniture cars by having a Hot Wheels road trip. It started on August 19th in El Segundo, CA and has stops along the way in Wendover, Utah (Aug. 21), Speed, KS (Aug. 24), Indianapolis, IN (Aug. 30), Detroit, MI (Sept. 1) and Watkins Glen, NY (Sept. 5). Here's what they have planned:

At each stop, you can expect to find Hot Wheels® designers on hand for autographs, life-size Hot Wheels® cars, Hot Wheels® “driver’s license” kiosks, Hot Wheels® downhill racing, a display showcasing the history of the brand, and product demonstrations. And don’t miss your chance to see the one-of-a-kind jeweled Hot Wheels® car created for the anniversary and the production of the four-billionth car!
