Indiana Jones - Temple of Doom wave, the last of the line

There is something about knowing a toy line is cancelled that strangely makes me like it more. I picked up some of the Indiana Jones figures from Target the other day because they were on sale and also because I wanted a few more of them before they went goodbye forever. Mind you, I pretty much hated this line when it first came out, though it was mostly because I thought they were overpriced and I seemed to find far too many Mutt figures. I bought one Dr. Jones figure and an Indy, and that was it. But as different retailers cut the price on these to clear them out, I started to like them more. So I bought some Russian Soldiers and the Indy with the Ark set. Many of the figures and vehicles (like the Cargo Truck) match up well with G.I. Joe stuff, so they do have that going for them.
The final wave of the line before cancellation is the Temple of Doom wave, which is out now but pretty hard to find with most retailers having washed their hands of this line.
Figures.com has a really nice review of the Temple of Doom wave up, with up-close pics of the figures and the hidden relics they come with. I still haven't found these yet, but hopefully the clearance sales continue (I'm looking at you Toys 'R' Us) as I'd like to add a few more to my collection (especially the Mola Ram) before Indy goes quietly into the night.

Indiana Jones box sets out this week exclusively at Target

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was released on DVD this week. As part of roll-out, Target stores have debuted 3 exclusive Battle Packs of Indiana Jones action figures reenacting famous scenes from the movies. The Tank Showdown set pictured above is notable because it includes one of the most popular (and hardest to find) figures in the series, Dr. Henry Jones. Each set costs $15.99 each and includes 5 figures.
As a reminder, this line from Hasbro has been canceled following the current Temple of Doom wave.

The 3 Battle Packs are:
- Indiana Jones Last Crusade Tank Showdown
- Indiana Jones Battle Pack - Cairo Ambush
- Indiana Jones Battle Pack - Jungle Chase

Indiana Jones action figures - Temple of Doom wave

Is this Indy's last hurrah? In a word - yes. We previously reported on how Hasbro was canceling the Indiana Jones action figure line after this wave, with plans for future waves axed. So we get a Short Round and a Mola Ram, but a new Toht figure will unfortunately never see the light of day.
The Temple of Doom wave includes 6 figures:

-Indiana Jones (Temple of Doom version)
-Mola Ram
-Temple Guard
-Temple Thug
-Short Round
-Willie Scott

These should be in stores soon, and are currently in-stock at Brian's Toys.

Indiana Jones action figures cancelled?

A rumor has been circulating around various toy forums that Hasbro's Indiana Jones line of action figures has been cancelled due to poor sales. The Temple of Doom wave that is due next will be the last of the series. This really doesn't come as too much of a surprise to me; I was excited about collecting these figures until I actually saw them in the stores. The movie wasn't a big enough hit to propel them on their own, and when the actual toys showed up with poor quality fabrication and little imagination in design, it was only a matter of time. Like many toy collectors, I bought a couple figures from the line (The Grail Knight, Dr. Henry Jones) but the overwhelming number of crappy Mutt action figures and other boring figures still fill the shelves to this day. Hasbro made some mistakes on which characters to emphasize. If you ask me, they should have placed less emphasis on the new movie and released a wider variety of figures from the beginning. And the figures should have been of a higher quality. This is Hasbro, for God's sake; they make Star Wars and G.I. Joe! You'd think they could have emulated those figures instead of putting out this schlop. I'm sad to see any toy line fail that is based on a property that I love, but this line was mostly crap.
