Robotech.com has just unveiled new details on the Masterpiece Cyclone from Toynami; it is also available for pre-order for the first time. As part of the New Generation chapter of Robotech, the Cyclone is the latest edition to the Masterpiece collection of extremely high quality Toynami figures. We reported on the Masterpiece Beta Fighter that is due out in November, and the Cyclone is set to follow in December.
Masterpiece Cyclone features:
- 1/10 scale
- 7.5 inch tall Scott Bernard figure
- Fabric undersuit
- 8.5 inches tall with Cyclone armor
- 2 removable heads
- Several removable hands
- Comes with 2 handheld weapons
- Comes with display stand
Price is listed as $199 but I seriously hope this is some kinda misprint. The Cyclone has been long-delayed, and past showings of it at the NY Toy Fair talked about an $80 price point. Also, considering that the Masterpiece Veritechs (and even Masterpiece Voltron) were $150 or less, a $200 price for the Cyclone just seems oddly expensive.
No word on how limited these will be, but every other Masterpiece figure has been limited to a set number.
Scott Bernard is #1 in the series, and Lancer and Rand are up next.

Voltron live-action movie coming or not?
With the Transformers movie a huge-hit, and the G.I. Joe movie arriving next summer, Hollywood has been looking for other toy-related properties to put on the big screen. The Voltron live-action movie has been in early works, but yesterday came news that it is changing hands -- moving from New Regency to Relativity, the company that brought you Ghost Rider, The Forbidden Kingdom, and Wanted. But it is still far from a done deal, and this isn't the best of news for those hoping for a quality movie. Hopefully any movie would spark some new Voltron toys. The Voltron Masterpiece Collection was released last year, and it is still available from some online retailers, but besides that the Voltron toy line has been pretty dormant here in U.S.
In the same article, the Robotech live-action movie is talked about, but it is another project that is far from certain. Previous articles have mentioned that Tobey McGuire's production company is involved, but that the movie wouldn't be set in the Macross generation due to a dispute with the Japanese owners of the Macross franchise.
Toy fans can only hope that both movies make it to theaters some time in the future, as toy lines coinciding with their release would be very likely. And who wouldn't want to see Voltron on a 50 foot screen?

Robotech Beta Fighter up for pre-order
The Masterpiece Collection from Toynami continues, this time with the coveted Robotech Beta Fighter, which has never been produced before. A fan favorite from the New Generation series, the Beta Fighter will set you back a little bit (like all the Masterpiece Collection pieces, high quality = high price) at $149.99 each.
The first wave is in Blue, and is designed to interface with the blue Alpha fighters. Red and Green versions will follow after the first production run of 10,000.
These will sell out, so pre-order now for October/November delivery.
