Toy Collection of the Week - Zod's massive loose Star Wars collection

Of all the toy collections I have seen, I think this is the largest and best organized loose Star Wars collection I have ever had the privilege to set my eyes upon. Rebelscum.com forum member "Kneel Before Zod" posted some photos of his collection awhile ago, but updated it with new photos last month that show the amazing size and quantity of his toy horde - all neatly organized on display shelves. This is truly a work of art.
Do not open this link unless you are on a high speed connection, because you will be overwhelmed with the sheer number of photos. But if you want to see the grand work of an obsessed Star Wars collector (and I mean that in a purely positive way), click the link below. Sir, I salute you!

Toy Collector of the Week - LEGO fanatic Darren Smith

Darren Smith of the UK has the proud honor of being the owner of the largest private LEGO collection. At over 2000 sets and 2 million bricks, Smith owns a collection valued at almost $100,000. The 32-year-old has had to convert his loft and garage to house the collection – and his wife says it threatens to overrun their small home. Lately he has turned to building large LEGO figures to put his talents to use.
Smith says, “Storage is an issue but I just keep on collecting. Lego produce about 200 new sets each year and I want them all.”

His collection made the news in the UK press this week, and you can read more about it here.

Toy Collector of the Week - Peaugh

This week's featured collector is Peaugh, a well-known Transformer collector and reviewer on Youtube. He regularly reviews unreleased Transformers he purchases from Chinese suppliers, giving us a detailed look at the toys often weeks before they hit the shelves. The above video is Part 1 of his Transformer collection, and you can find Part 2 here.
This week he posted his 100th video review, a look at the upcoming Transformers Animated Shockwave. If you haven't seen Shockwave yet, check out the link for a look at this classic Transformer character who is now restyled for the Animated line and features 4 different modes (2 Robot modes, a crane, and a tank).
Peaugh is also running a contest this week in celebration of his 100th review. You can win a new Transformers Animated Ultra Magnus by viewing this video and answering his video scavenger hunt questions. The contest ends on September 21 at Midnight EST, so have a go at it for a chance to win a free $40 Leader Class Transformer. I don't own Ultra Magnus yet, so I'll be entering myself. Also, visit his Youtube homepage for a look at all his Transformer reviews.

Toy Collection of the Week - Alex of toyhaven.blogspot.com

This week's featured collector is Alex of toyhaven.blogspot.com
His site is updated almost everyday with many high-quality pictures from his collection. He seems to favor military-themed toys, but also collects other popular toy lines such as Star Wars. He is known for his extremely detailed toy reviews peppered with a tremendous amount of pictures as he brings you the latest additions to his overflowing collection. Visit his blog to read about his newest acquisitions as well as extensive photographs of his overall collection displayed on the right-side of his blog. I read his site everyday, and as a toy collector who is short on space to display my toys, I am a bit jealous of his shelf space. Toys are meant to be seen and played with, and Alex certainly lives up to that.

Toy Collection of the Week - Shredder's Masters of the Universe Collection

For this week's feature, we take a look at Shredder's "He-Man & The Masters of the Universe" collection. Check out the 3 minute video as he walks you through his collection. There may be bigger He-Man collections out there, but he makes a very watchable presentation of his toys and shows off a few rarer pieces such as Snake Mountain. It certainly has me looking forward to the MOTU Classics coming this fall.

Toy Collection of the Week - Revisiting the "Million Dollar Transformers Collection"

Perhaps you remember this story from last summer: A woman from Escondido, California was auctioning off her late husband's G1 Transformers collection. The collection contained over 275 original Transformers from the 1980s, most in their original unopened boxes. She put it on Ebay with a Buy-It-Now price of one million dollars. And someone actually bought it. Newspapers around the world ran stories about the "Million Dollar Transformers Collection" and many were shocked, since even using generous pricing the collection wasn't worth 7 digits. Well, she never got the money. Turns out it was a 5 year old kid messing with her, so she relisted it. This time, she got bids of over $90,000 but she had set a reserve price above that amount, so the collection didn't sell again. Finally, she listed it a third time on Ebay, and it sold for $50,000, her minimum bid. That price works out to about $180 for each Transformer, certainly a somewhat more reasonable price.
Who bought this collection and what happened to it? I am unable to find any answers to those questions, as the buyer was kept secret and they never came forward. My best guess is that an investor bought the collection and then resold them all one-by-one on Ebay over the last year.

Toy Collection of the Week - Josh Budich

I've written before about the software I use to keep my toy collection organized. Well, a Star Wars collector named Josh Budich has his own unique way that requires a bit more skillz but results in a very cool online database of his collection. His 600+ figure collection is shown on his website with a small pixelated icon of each toy, and clicking on one brings up details and pictures of the real item. Josh is an artist/designer by profession and he obviously put a lot of time into this. We thank him because toy collections are meant to be looked at and shared. It's also very educational for Star Wars collectors, as his collection can be searched in various ways and features many exclusive items you may not know about.
