Masters of the Universe figure Faker to be unveiled at NY Comic Con

As we patiently await the release of Masters of the Universe Classics He-Man and Beastman on December 1, Mattycollector.com has just updated with some awesome news for fans about what they have in store for the coming year. It looks like Faker will make his debut at the NY Comic Con (February 6-8, 2009), and then be available in March via the Mattycollector website. This is sort of what they did with King Grayskull last summer at the San Diego Comic con, so just how limited this figure will be is still to be discovered, but you can get him first by attending the NY Comic Con. They promise more news, release dates and photo guides for other figures in the next week or so when they launch their new brand page at Mattycollector.com -- so stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy these pics of Classics Faker.

Update on the Spirit of Grayskull auction

Last week we told you about the charity auction for the ultra-rare Spirit of Grayskull action figure, of which only two were produced.

Well, it sold for $3400 at the CAAF4kids auction. That's a lot of samoles, but hey it was for a good cause. I can't find anything on the buyer, which isn't a surprise. I just wonder if it was purchased by a toy collector/Masters of the Universe fan, or merely someone with big pockets looking to help kids. I can just picture the figure now, with the box torn open, being played with in some sandbox in the Hollywood hills. Nah...

By the way, another item at the auction, the one-of-a-kind Darth Mater (pictured below) sold for $10,000!

The rarest He-Man figure ever produced

Here is a look at the Spriit of Grayskull action figure from Mattel, the rarest He-Man and the Masters of the Universe figure ever produced. Only 2 were made. One was raffled off to some lucky bastard over the summer at the San Diego Comic Con, the other is up for auction for charity this week.
Yes, that's right, you can own him! You just need to outbid some deep-pocketed Hollywood philanthropist who probably has no idea what He-Man is but wants to help some kid's charity. The nerve of some people.
Anyways, the auction is being held at the Hollywood Dream Halloween to benefit Children affected by AIDS event, which is set for Saturday, October 25. You can bid from home if you think you have a chance (you don't have a chance).

Win a free SDCC King Grayskull action figure from AFC & Mattel

ActionFigureCollectors.com and Mattel is sponsoring a contest this month to win a free King Grayskull, the popular action figure that quickly sold out at San Diego Comic Con last summer. King Grayskull is the first figure in the new Masters of the Universe Classics line from mattycollector.com.
All you have to do is send a picture of yourself in your Halloween costume to info@actionfigurecollectors.com and from there it is a random drawing of all entrants, so you won't be judged on your costume photo - you just have to have one to enter.
The winner will be selected on November 1, so hurry up and send in your photo.
For all the details, visit their contest page.

New Masters of the Universe figure announced

You are looking at Stratos, the newly disclosed figure from the Masters of the Universe Classics collection. He was revealed today on He-Man.org and you can click on the thumbnails below for more pics of him, including one showing him with his original 1980s figure and one with the new Skeletor. Also shown are two photos of the previously announced Mer-Man with his different weapons and heads.

More problems arise with new He-Man figures

The new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Classic line hasn't been without some controversy. Many fans around the 'net seemed a little disappointed that the new toys, which will be sold exclusively at Mattycollector.com, won't include any of the 2002 figures and will be based on the original '80s toy line in design. Some fans have also balked at the hefty price tag, at over $20 each with shipping.

Now comes word that armor issues are causing the delay of the first two figures, He-Man and Beastman. Originally scheduled for October 31 and November 15 respectively, they have now been pushed back to December. The only good news is they will now be released on the same day, so you can save on shipping by having them sent together. Also, supposedly the armor is being improved so it is interchangeable with other figures in the collection.
In light of these issues, He-Man.org is running a poll to gauge fan reaction to the line, so go and vote and hopefully Mattel is listening.

Toy Collection of the Week - Shredder's Masters of the Universe Collection

For this week's feature, we take a look at Shredder's "He-Man & The Masters of the Universe" collection. Check out the 3 minute video as he walks you through his collection. There may be bigger He-Man collections out there, but he makes a very watchable presentation of his toys and shows off a few rarer pieces such as Snake Mountain. It certainly has me looking forward to the MOTU Classics coming this fall.

Masters of the Universe Classics line begins rollout

Mattel kicked off the return of He-Man at the San Diego Comic Con with the highly sought after exclusive King Greyskull (and the rare "statue" variant). If you were lucky enough to get either, you were rewarded with a low volume exclusive that is in demand right now.

The Masters of the Universe Classics line continues this fall with the release of He-Man and Beastman, both priced at $20 each (which is a bit pricey). These can only be ordered via mattycollector.com which is Mattel's official online store. We'll update you when each becomes available, but we wanted to give you a preview.
Here's hoping the Classics line receives enough fan support to entice Mattel to release many more Masters of the Universe figures. I want an Orko, damnit!

UPDATE:
The release dates and other figures in the line have been revealed:
* He-Man - October 31st
* Beast Man - November 15th
* Skeletor - December 15th
* Stratos - January 15th
* Merman - February 15th
* Zodac - Sometime in 2009

Step into the wayback machine...

Dateline: 1982. Jessica Biel is born, compact disks are introduced, wars rage in the Falklands and Lebannon... but still no world wide web! So how did people order stuff from the comfort of their own home? The Sears Catalog, of course. It was a huge, phone book sized directory of everything from clothes to toys. And it is of course the toys that we are most interested in. 1982 was actually a banner year for toys, with the debut of the "modern" G.I. Joe line as well as He Man. And of course Star Wars merchandise was selling like hotcakes in preparation for 1983's Return of the Jedi. The Sears catalog no longer exists, but here is a look back at some of the highlights from 1982 collectable toys from Sears (click the thumbnails to see the full size pics). The more of these toys you owned, the more your parents loved you.
